The Stornoway Gazette paper and website does contain some good editorial content but due to the national focus of it's parent company it does suffer. It often includes irrelevant news and desperate adverts for cheap gimmicky items as news item in their feed. This may take advantage of the trusting elders of the Western Isles, we try to strip these out at source. If however you are looking for a cheap Chinese heated body warmer head straight to their site. 'Latha na Gazette' was once the Gaelic for Thursday in these parts, on that day 'The 5 minute silence' was observed in households by each family member, by order of seniority while they scanned the pages of this once venerable organ.

CalMac’s tripartite governance model has clearly allowed the Scottish Government’s operational shortcomings and failures to filter into its IT systems. The official website remains far from fit for purpose for lifeline service passengers seeking simple, reliable information. Here is the status of the Outer Hebrides ferries at a glance. Click the links to hopefully get the relevant info from their site.

Watch the repopulation of the Western Isles in real time, chance to win a prize if you spot a Hebridean surname here! Newsflash: Crofters have been planting potatoes, cutting peats and shearing sheep on these islands for generations, they just didn't have TikTok, Facebook and Insta to tell everybody about it, if they had, they wouldn't have.
